WHAT I KNOW ABOUT RAISING MY KIDS

Keep a Clean Tongue in Your Mouth

Foul words are as common as kind ones.
There’s just no escaping their use.
They often are cruel and offensive.
Convenient for angry abuse.

I’m sad to admit, that my own tongue.
Has spewed them, throughout, most my days.
As hard as I try not to use them.
I just can’t escape my old ways.

I know what a jerk I can sound like.
Remind me, kids, that I’m being bad.
Please promise me when you grow up, guys.
You won’t speak the same words that I had.

God gave us so many, nice, good words.
Why spoil them, all, with profane.
I’ve found, when I find myself swearing,
That I sound like I don’t have a brain.

You’re gonna hear swearing in movies.
From people wherever you go.
Whenever you’re tempted to use some bad word.
Remember that God would say “no”.

It don’t make you sound any smarter.
It don’t make you tough, neat or cool.
Instead it implies, an illiterate mind.
When you speak like an ignorant fool.

So do your ole dad a big favor.
Abstain from bad language.  Be smart!
Catch me each time that I make a mistake.
For now that will be a good start.

Be careful the thought, which you dwell on.
Be careful to all that you say.
Don’t feel that, cause others are doing it.
Means you, too, must swear that same way.

Right now you think swearing is cool, kids.
Learn this, now, while you, both, are still young.
Let only intelligent, kind, useful words,
Roll off of your, God praising, tongue.
