DEALING WITH ADDICTION |
All of my life I have desperately sought,
to find what my soul seemed to long.
I'd found it a few times, that's what I thought,
only to learn I was wrong.
I thought the right partner, was just what I needed,
to fill the dark void in my soul.
Tried going that route, but I never succeeded,
in reaching my happiness goal.
I tried switching jobs, surely too often.
That, sometimes, would work for a while.
Still, try as I might, my heart wouldn't soften.
I still was in search of my smile.
I moved 'round the country. Searched for my rainbow.
Hoped that the air might be cleaner.
Contentness would come, not as fast as it'd go.
The grass, I can say, was no greener.
I sought getting high, through drugs and through booze.
That was a big, big mistake.
What pleasure I'd find, the drugs helped me lose.
That was a bad route to take.
I frantically searched for some small peace of mind.
For happiness, true, that would last.
The small bits I, somehow, was able to find,
would come much too slow, go too fast.
By now my frustration was getting me down.
I thought of just ending my quest.
I needed a cure for my deepening frown.
My misery needed a rest.
I'm almost embarrassed, to tell you I found it,
there, right in front of my eyes.
I'd had it taught to me, yet walked all around it.
Instead followed Satan's dark lies.
My search was a long one, but well worth the while.
God has provided my needs.
He waited and watched as I journeyed, each mile,
planting his spiritual seeds.
I gave them some water; they've taken their root,
and now they are growing like mad.
God is my hope and my final pursuit.
My life is no longer going bad.
If you're in the rut I once had to endure,
filled with despair, gloom and strife.
God is the answer. The wonderful cure,
from living a miserable life.
To those who are searching and struggling still,
these are the words that I pray:
That you will love God and start doing his will,
and that you will do it today.
