I Carried the Message to Others

I've found that a good life is one without using.
That I can be happy, yet clean.
Not to point fingers, nor be too accusing.
Let me explain what I mean.

I learned that my suff'ring, was all self inflicted.
That I had a choice all along,
Despite my sad past and the fact I'm addicted.
The choices I made were all wrong.

All of the choices I'm making today,
are choices to help me progress.
I choose going to meetings, like N. and A.A.
To hear other people's success.

I choose now to work on completely recovering.
I choose the twelve steps as my guide.
I choose to be bold in my search to uncovering
the me that I once chose to hide.

I've learned through this process, to keep what I've got.
In turn I must give it away.
To carry the message, is part of my plot,
in keeping me clean day to day.

So many addicts, still out there, who suffer,
Fighting this battle, I'm fighting.
I'm hoping to help them to be a bit tougher.
Therefore, this book I am writing.

To carry the message, to others who need it.
To share all the lessons I've learned.
I hope you find strength, as you take time to read it.
That your life will, too, be returned.

For if I touch only one life, some small way,
If someone can learn from this book,
I will be proud and quite happy to say:
It's worth all the effort it took.
