DEALING WITH ADDICTION |
I tried to get sober, throughout my whole life,
but never had any success.
I'd quit for a while. Think I had licked it,
just to return to my mess.
I went for some counseling. Tried relocation.
Just couldn't find no escape.
Twenty-five years I had dealt with this struggle.
I was in terrible shape.
Just about ready to throw in the towel.
Came to the end of my rope.
Couldn't continue to live in my misery.
I had lost all of my hope.
Then came along this most wonderful program,
Founded by addicts like me.
'Twas there I discovered a road to recovery,
Twelve steps that set my soul free.
All of my life I had carried this problem;
Now I had found the solution.
Fin'ly a way I could get myself clean
of all of this filthy pollution.
My problem is one that will always exist,
right up to the day that I die.
But now I can face it and finally admit to
the problem I used to deny.
It's hard to believe that when nothing else worked,
this program would come to prevail.
As long as we work it with vim and with vigor,
I truly believe we can't fail.
The program not only assists us in quitting
our drugging and all of our drinking;
It shows us the way we can fin'ly start living.
It changes the way we've been thinking.
It helps find the happiness, which we have searched for,
but only could find in our using.
It clears all our misguided thoughts and behaviors;
It makes them a lot less confusing.
It gets us in contact with God, as we know him.
It opens our spiritual side.
It gives us a new sense of peace and sereneness.
It brings back our hope and our pride.
It mends broken fam'lies. It heals long time heartaches.
It fixes the things we had broken.
It gives us the courage to face our misconducts.
To speak, what it is needs be spoken.
It gets us in touch with our long lost emotions
and brings back some very strong feelings.
It's the foundation of truly recov'ring.
The source of our spiritual healings.
Of all of the things, I have ever believed in,
This ranks at the top of my list.
The more that I work it, the more I am seeing
how much of my life that I've missed.
Look at this program and look at it closely.
Follow it right to the "T".
I pray that it does for you, all the good things
it's done, all so gracious, for me.
