They took our own airplanes, by force, we've no doubt.
Took over the cockpit and altered it's route.
Aimed them at targets of majestic construction.
With one sole objective, in mind - their destruction.
Their plan was well plotted and perfectly schemed.
In the worst of our nightmares, we'd never have dreamed.
Of the terror, we saw, that took place that grave day.
Who'd ever have thought it could happen that way?
September Eleventh - 'bout Seven Forty-Five*.
For many, the last minute that they were alive.
They hit New York City. The World Trade Center tower.
That was the start of the World's darkest hour.
At first folks weren't sure. They had got no report.
They figured an accident of some crazy sort.
But then, Eight O'Three*, it was terror, they knew.
Another large plane had crashed building two.
Complete pandemonium struck in Manhattan.
In just a short while, these buildings would flatten.
While the world watched in horror, just feeling the pain.
At eight-forty the Pentagon met with their plane.
A fourth jumbo jet, well it seems had a plan.
Perhaps gotten foiled by some woman or man.
It did not make its target. Thank God for one break.
Still forty-five lives, this fouled mission, did take.
A day that the world, surely, will not forget.
An act that these terrorists, soon will regret.
It's far, far from over, but have you no doubt.
We'll locate these weasels and we'll smoke them out.

*The first of the Twin Towers was struck at 8:45 a.m. EDT, and the second at 9:03 a.m. EDT. To an observer in the Central Time Zone (where Steve is located), the time would have been an hour earlier.
