AMERICA UNDER ATTACK |
On September 11th, 2001, the United States was the victim of the most tragic act of terrorism it has ever experienced. As I watched the story unfold, in horror, I felt this dire need to write my thoughts and feelings down, to not only remind me of the horror of that day, but to always remember the feeling of unity our country experienced, in the earlier days, following that tragic event.
How proud I was, and still am, to be a citizen of a country where freedom rings so loud and clear. This book, for me, is a constant reminder of how vulnerable we are as a nation. It makes me more fully aware and appreciative of all of the wonderful freedoms and liberties that I used to take for granted.
This book goes out to all the victims of the terrorist acts that took place that day. To all the families that have lost loved ones. To those who have lost loved ones in the war effort. To everyone who did some small part in helping with the clean up! To those aiding the victims, giving blood, making meals, consoling the hurting and the horrified! To anyone who offered any help, in any way, shape or form, even if your prayers were all you had to offer.
It goes out to those who have died, and those who will continue to die, in the war effort. The brave men and women who are securing freedom in this great country of ours, as well as those in foreign lands, who are sacrificing of themselves, in an effort to bring this evil terror to an end, no matter what the cost.
As a country, I believe that we need to pray for our Government, our military and our Commander in Chief, that wise decisions will be made, and that victory will follow us, wherever it is, that we are forced to do battle. That virtue will triumph over evil. And that, as a country, we remain strong in the face of this evil that threatens our way of life. Shortly after 9/11, we came together, as a country, in prayer. I believe we continually need to pray, as a country, if we are to bring an end to this evil, that is so intent on bringing this great nation of ours to its knees.
I wrote these poems as the events unfolded before me. I hope you enjoy the reading and that these poems will keep, fresh in you, a strong love for this country and a sincere commitment, from you, to pray for its strength, courage and eventual victory, in this war against terror that has been waged against us.
To our brave men and women wearing the uniform:
Our nation thanks you for your courage and your selfless sacrifice!
We are proud of the brilliant and honorable job that you are doing!
Patriotically,
Steve Ackerman
