Searching to Find Me the Truth
Son, you will never amount to a thing.
Amazing the pain that his lie can still bring.
My father had made it as clear as could be.
My future held little, or nothing for me.
He painted “big failure” all over my face.
He then left me here with this big empty space.
Believing his lie as I’d try to outlive it.
Holding me back from my best, I could give it.
Like a dog who’d been beaten, I struggled along.
Believing this lie that I know was so wrong.
I just can’t convince me to what’s really true.
But, God, you are truth. May I seek it from you.
God told me “dear son, just forget all those lies.
For you are quite precious and good in my eyes.
I’ve blessed you quite deeply. I’ve paid all your dues,
and you will do well at whatever you choose.
“As long as you keep me inside of your heart.
I’ll guide you in ev’ry new journey you start.
And I will stick with you, right thru, to the end.
I’ll be your companion! Your Guide and your friend.
“I’ve sent you my son as your long and lost hope.
And though you may feel you have run out of rope.
Remember I’m with you and I’ll set you free.
I will help you become who you’re longing to be.”
