SPIRITUAL FOOD FOR THOUGHT

A Broken Solemn Promise

For all of you calling yourselves Christians.
What sort of example do you set.
Have you given your life over to Jesus.
Or haven’t you done that quite yet?

Did you ask for his gift of salvation?
Receive him as Savior and Lord?
Were your sins something you had acknowledged?
Or something that you’d just ignored?

Did you make the sworn vow you would serve him,
with all of your heart and your soul?
Did you ask him to, somehow, forgive you?
To give back all the things Satan stole.

When you prayed, did you truly believe it,
that Christ, thru his blood, made you new?
Did you mean what you said, then, to Jesus,
“Lord, my life, I am giving to you?”

Did you think of the terms that you stated,
that day you’d accepted his grace?
Were you solemn in what you had promised?
More than likely, that wasn’t the case!

Has the sin that you carried, been discarded?
I thought that was what we all meant,
the day that our sin was acknowledged.
The day that we said we’d repent.

I’m feeling a little bit guilty.
My face being covered with mud.
I feel as though I am neglecting,
the price Jesus paid with his blood.

I know that I’ll never be perfect,
like the Savior who came here to die.
I also know what I had promised.
That with all of my heart I would try.

I’m sorry I’ve broken my promise.
Dear Jesus, forgive me once more.
For all of the sin I still carry.
For the vow that I chose to ignore.

Each day, Lord, please help me grow stronger.
To be what a Christian should be.
Let your spirit bring forth new conviction,
that my soul might be, finally, set free.

To see that my life is devoted,
to seeing you honorably served.
To give, to you, all of the glory,
you’d so fully and truly deserved.

I ask for your grace and your mercy.
I ask for these things right out loud.
Let me be the good son that you long for.
Make me pure that I might make you proud.

Take the sin I refuse to let go of,
and rid me of all its temptation.
Fill my head with the constant reminder,
what you did so I might have salvation.

Help me never to take your deed lightly.
Let your promise be all that I need.
In attempting to be a good Christian,
from now on, Lord, I’ll follow your lead.
