SPIRITUAL FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Are You Really (really) Happy

I think I’ve got if figured out.  Why life can be so rough.
Why that happiness, throughout the world, is lacking.
No matter what we have, it seems, it never is enough.
It’s a case I’ve pondered often!  Well worth cracking.

Take a look around you.  You can see it in the eyes.
There is sadness and depression, far too much.
So many try to hide it.  You can see thru their disguise.
They have feelings, which they long to get in touch.

You can hear their cries for happy.  They reveal themselves point blank.
If I just had this or that, life would be grand.
Be a job, a spouse, a home, a car.  Some money in the bank.
If my life could just turn out as I had planned.

If this!  If that!  When this is done!  I firmly guarantee,
I would be the happiest person on the earth.
When everything I’m wanting comes together, right, for me,
When I’m blessed with all things I know I’m worth.

Guess what?  Once you achieve those things—you’ll only want some more,
and instead of being happy, you’ll grow old.
Happy has to be constant.  Not an endless, painful chore,
that you hope someday you fin’ly will unfold.

Life can have a happy ending!  Happy middle!  Happy start!
It’s the attitude with which you choose to live it.
It’s expressing the desires that are deep within your heart.
It is being full of love and quick to give it.

It is reaching out to others, lending out a helping hand,
bringing smiles to the worn.  The weak!  The weary.
It’s the joy of giving gen’rously, you’ll quickly understand,
what it takes to keep this world from getting dreary.

It isn’t what you have that counts.  It isn’t where you live.
It is not the car!  The kids!  The funds.  The mate!
It is what we’re doing where we’re at.  It’s what we freely give.
It is being full of love instead of hate.

When you touch the hearts around you, you will feel your heart be warmed.
It’s a warmth that words could never, quite, explain.
Giving hope where hope is needed.  Watching peoples lives transformed.
Giving comfort to those living lives of pain.

It isn’t what you have that counts, but rather what you give,
that will bless you in the end, when you have died.
It’s what you choose to do with your remaining life to live,
That determines if you’re happy, deep inside.
