SPIRITUAL FOOD FOR THOUGHT

I Was Hoping to Set an Example

I am proud to be part of this wonderful church.
It has helped me so much in my spiritual search.
God is alive here!  He’s present today!
And I am his child, I’m happy to say!

Something concerns me though, once in a while.
I think of the members we have here on file.
With Gods mighty presence, so obviously showing.
How come this Church isn’t rapidly growing?

I wondered if God would be, somehow, delighted.
If into his house many guests were invited.
This wonderful place where I come to each week.
Might be just the place that these guest of mine seek.

Why I’ve not been doing this, struck me as odd.
If I get them to Church, there’s a chance they’ll meet God.
With nothing to lose and with so much to gain.
I started a quest which I pray will sustain.

I’m not always good at expressing Gods word.
But here I am sure that his voice will be heard.
Lessons are learned here and values arranged.
Lives, for the better, forever are changed.

Friendships are made here, that rank ‘mong the best.
God in his wonder is truly expressed.
With all of these people still wandering astray.
Is it not my duty, to show them the way.

So I made me a list of my friends, old and new.
Amazing how quickly this list of mine grew.
It gave me a reason to contact old friends.
Touch base on old times, even make some amends.

Results were impressing.  It was getting exciting.
Who’ve I forgotten?  Who ain’t I inviting?
There’s so many people I see every day.
How bout those kids who come over to play.

So I would invite all of them.  Not only some.
I welcomed their friends and their fam’ly to come.
These kids come to my house to have fun and play.
At this house they’ll learn how to worship and pray.

And then there’s my fam’ly.  A few, still unchurched.
To add to the list of the lost which I’d searched.
It started coming natural once I’d begun it.
Today I’m so glad that I’d took time and done it.

There’s many I talked to who just couldn’t make.
I gave them a rain check.  They said “they would take it.”
There’s some who weren’t int’rested.  Just wouldn’t come.
This wasn’t their time, I had known there be some.

Still, all in all, there are many who came.
Some who know Jesus, but only by name.
A few’d briefly strayed from their God of creation.
Just needed some nudging to end their vacation.

With God as my motive my plan couldn’t fail.
Here’s what my efforts have come to prevail.
Would everyone here, I’d invited, please stand.
Let’s make them feel welcome.  Please, give them a hand.

The point I am wanting to make here today.
It’s good we read scripture!  It’s good that we pray.
Still I believe that we all need a vision.
Winning lost souls.  Isn’t that our commission.

As Christians aren’t we to act as Christ acted.
Attracting lost souls like the souls he attracted.
How will that happen if we soon don’t start trying?
How we can we sit while these souls remain dying?

Satan’s the enemy!  He is our rival!
We can defeat him!  We just need revival!
Together we stand, yet divided we fall.
Isn’t it time that we answered Christ’s call.

If you have a loved one you’re keeping away.
A friend, who’s in need, that you see day to day.
The kids who are heading down every wrong street.
The stranger, who’s struggling, you happened to meet.

If you’re not inviting them, please, tell me why.
It’s seems they are drowning.  We’re watching them die.
As Christians we have to partake in this thing.
When coming to Church, finding others to bring.

We need to reach out and extend them our hand.
Let’s show them Gods’ house and the life he has planned.
There’s too many seats, in this church, we could fill.
They’d soon overflow if we just did God’s will.

Please, tell all you know, you are anxious to treat them.
To visit God’s house.  He is waiting to meet them.
Each chance that you get, share the gift of salvation.
The difference is you and that one invitation.
