In memory of Nine-Eleven,
The result of the terror attack,
Let us all feel a sense of commitment,
In improving wherever we lack.
Addiction's a good place to start with.
We all have a weakness or two.
Perhaps we should strike at al-Qaeda,
By expressing America true.
We're known for our justice and freedom.
From our bondage, then let us be freed.
If you doubt what it is am saying,
Nine-Eleven affirms the deep need.
We're at war, and our foe is among us.
We must always be fully prepared.
By defeating our troubling addictions,
We will prove we are, not one bit, scared.
What I learned from that day in my horror,
Was tomorrow is truly uncertain.
I learned we must heal as a country,
That addiction is part of our hurtin'.
If you look at the stats, you will notice
That the lives that we lost that sad day,
Are matched every day by addiction.
I am sick of its evil decay.
As a tribute to all the lives lost there,
In response to that terrible scene,
I made a new vow and commitment,
To keep myself sober and clean.
For all of the lives that it shattered,
For all of the lives that it took,
I wrote me another devotion.
"America Under Attack" is the book.
To me I relate terror and addiction,
As I write out the words of each poem.
These wars that our country is fighting
Are hitting us right here at home.
If you learn anything from this lesson,
Let those terrorists' acts make you stronger
To terror, and likewise addiction.
Let's stand for each of them, no longer.
