I looked up the word war, as Webster describes it.
The words that stuck out on the page.
I related to "conflict" and "struggle" and "battle."
It's something in which we engage.
Here is another word that I'd looked up.
I like this description the best.
To involve oneself; to be active; take part.
Standing up to a thing we detest.
So I looked up detest. It was just what I thought.
To intensely dislike; abhor; hate.
I thought of addiction. What it did to my life.
All the crap that it put on my plate.
I thought how each day, that I don't do my part,
Of the more who'll fall victim and die.
I might make a difference by joining this battle.
I won't know, at least, 'til I try.
We are losing this war. I am sorry to say,
And the sad part's few know it exist.
We're scared for our lives of some terrorist act,
while addiction rates low on our list.
The thought of some terrorist blowing us up
or dropping us down from a plane,
It keeps us awake and affects what we do.
It's in all of the news. It's insane!
While addiction slinks silently into our homes,
Stealing our children and folks.
Meanwhile people, with their shallow opinions,
keep mocking and telling their jokes.
It's costing our country, and most of the others,
millions of dollars and lives.
It's coming between employees and bosses.
'Tween children and husbands and wives.
Its wrath knows no boundaries. It purely is evil,
With one firm objective its goal:
It wants to bring ruin, depression and hopelessness.
In the end, what it wants is your soul.
It wins way too often. I can't stand it no longer.
I'm answering God's strong command.
I'm declaring a war. I am looking for troops.
It is time that we all take a stand.
America never has lost in a war.
Like Pearl Harbor, right now we are snoozing.
The picture seems bleak, as it did on that day.
One might get the impression we're losing.
Right now, that's the case. Our chips are way down.
But don't let that stop you from growin'.
Remember the saying, "When the goin' gets tough,
You can bet that the tough will get goin'."
United we stand. Divided we fall.
That phrase means a lot to me, friends.
Addiction has reigned long enough in our land.
Don't you think that it's time that it ends?
Let victory reign in your heart and your soul.
Ask God to empower you now,
In stopping this outrage that's robbing our land.
We must stop it sometime and somehow.
